History

Sergio Pompei - Founder, President

"I take great pride in my European heritage and my history in woodwork. Back in Italy at the age of fourteen I entered an apprenticeship as a furniture maker, and by nineteen I became a qualified master supervisor of a furniture factory.

In 1962, I immigrated to Canada, looking for a better life. My adventure began in Edmonton where I worked as a cabinet maker and finishing carpenter for over five years. I became very interested in new home construction and decided to gain experience in as many trades as possible. I started from the bottom and worked my way up, from pouring basements and framing to final finishing.

I built my first home in 1967 for my family. As my children grew, so did our need for a larger home, so I built another in 1971. I put my heart and soul into design and construction. A friend of the family was so impressed, that he asked me to build one for him too. That year, through word of mouth, I built seven homes.

Pompei Homes Ltd. was officially started in 1972. We now build approximately twenty quality homes a year. A good number of our customers still come to us by referral. I guess people appreciate when you work from the heart.

I am very proud of my family and my business. Joining with me is my oldest son, Tino. As construction manager and job supervisor, he works very hard to incorporate new technologies in home building. Dario, my second oldest boy, designs and estimates our homes using advanced computer technology. He also manages the company in accounts and communications. My daughter Anna Maria aspires to obtain a bachelor of commerce degree with a major in finance at the University of Alberta. Anna will continue her contribution to the family business by focusing on general business operations and accounting. Finally there is my wife Doriana, she is the support system that holds the company together. Without her, all would be lost.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers throughout the years for allowing Pompei Homes to continue to create masterpieces and to allow me to follow my heart and my love of building."

Tino Pompei - Quality control at its best

" I grew up in the construction industry along side my father. As a young boy I was often seen with Dad on the job sites watching and absorbing the new home building process. In 1987, following a great deal of careful considerations, I decided to join the family business full time.

Overlooking the job site has become second nature to me. I visit each one of our acting job sites several times a day to ensure the highest level of quality control and to be certain that the homes are built to exact specification. As construction manager and job supervisor, I feel that it is very important to make myself, my experience, and my knowledge base available to our customers and trades people at all times. I take this responsibility very seriously.

In order to keep our building standards up to date, I remain actively involved with the Greater Edmonton Home Builder Association. I have a passion for innovation and keep a close eye on the latest energy efficiency techniques and building code issues.

Following in Dad's footsteps, I also learned the value of family. Every day I am inspired and motivated by my beautiful wife Christine and our terrific children Larissa and Peter. It's funny how life sometimes tends to repeat itself. Peter is seen from time to time riding shotgun in the company truck... And so the story goes..."

Dario Pompei - Introducing technology innovation to new home design.

"When I was four or five years old, I used to sit with my crayons and draw houses for hours at a time. For some reason I have always been intrigued with home design.

I often tagged along with my father and brother to job sites where I gained plenty of hands on and technical experience. While actively taking part in framing, finishing, and site clean up, I had many opportunities to relate with the various trades which later helped me with my design skills. As time passed, my on site experience became an excellent foundation from which to efficiently represent our company in sales.

From the show home, over a period of ten years, I was able to explore and implement the use of computer aided technology to our drafting and cost process. Today with a certificate in Architectural Technology my duties include advanced 3D home design, estimating, administration and accounting.

My partner Claudia and I have a mutual interest in computers and technology. She has acquired certification in graphic design and together we have successfully combined our skills to offer a wealth of computer related services. Our talents market the company by creating advertisements, brochures, web sites, and multimedia.

Advancement in computer technology is staggering and it is my aspiration to transform this resource into a pleasant and informed experience for our customers."
